History of the Pokemon Universe

Pokemon are living creatures that live in the Pokemon world alongside humans. They take up the position of plants and animals in the real world. They usually help humans. While most humans treat Pokemon kindly, there are a select few that abuse them and use their powers for selfish reasons.

According to the Sinnoh legends, Pokemon started from an egg, although the egg’s origin wasn’t explained. Inside the egg was the very first Pokemon named Arceus. Arceus was the first Pokemon to be born and the first to ever exist. Arceus is seen as the ultimate creator of the Pokemon world. After its birth, it created three Pokemon known as the Creation Trio. They are Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina. Arceus gave Dialga power over time, Palkia power over space, and Giratina power over antimatter. Yet, Giratina was later banished by Arceus into the distortion world for its violent tendencies; hence, it is called the Renegade Pokemon.

After the banishment of Giratina, Dialga and Palkia began to create the universe. Upon finishing with the creation of the universe, Dialga and Palkia retreated into their dimensions. The Spear Pillar is the gate between their dimensions and the Pokemon universe.

However, Arceus was not about to stop the use of its creative powers. It went further to create another trio known as the Lake Guardians. They are Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf. They are called Lake Guardians because they dwell in caves located at the center of lakes. Uxie dwells in Lake Acuity, Mesprit in Lake Verity, and Azelf in Lake Valor. They were assigned different powers by Arceus as well. Uxie gives knowledge, Mesprit gives emotion, and Azelf gives willpower to the Pokemon universe’s creatures.

Arceus went into a deep slumber after creating the Lake Guardians, only to appear when needed the most. But, significant changes started in the Pokemon universe after that. Kyogre, a powerful water element Pokemon, was formed deep in the Pacific due to the deep-sea trenches’ extreme pressure. Simultaneously, Groudon, a powerful fire element Pokémon, was formed in the deep earth where the magma got hardened and the temperature is hot. A third powerful Pokemon, Rayquaza, was formed in the ozone layer by the minerals found there.

Kyogre is in the ocean, filling the sea with water. Groudon on the other hand resides in the earth, creating lands everywhere. Their conflicting abilities and habitat of these two monsters forced them to be archenemies. They fought for dominance over the Pokemon world. That was the first major battle in the Pokemon world, and only Rayquaza could stop it. After fighting for countless days, Rayquaza intervened and stopped them from destroying the universe. So, Groudon and Kyogre retreated into their caverns, which restored peace to the universe.

After the great war was over, the Pokemon started living in peace again. Although there were different types of Pokémon, the common Pokemon around the world were Mews. They were scattered around the universe. Over time the Mews adapted to their environment and metamorphosed into different types of Pokemon. Hence, Mew is known as the Ancestor of Pokemon.

The different regions of the Pokemon universe are the handiwork of Regigigas. Regigigas shaped the land created by Groudon into different landmasses. He created Regirock, Regice, and Registeel out of clay, ice, and steel, respectively, in the process. The differences in regions led to the differences in environments. The need for adaptation to different environments led to the evolution of Mews to different kinds of Pokemon.

Well, that’s just a brief introduction to the Pokemon universe. However, it is more pertinent to talk about how the Pokemon franchise came to be.
